Plastica Compact is an exceptionally durable decorative sheet material produced by Fundermax. What makes this board material truly unique is its sustainability. Over the past year, the Plastica Compact board has been made of 100% recycled paper, without making any concessions on quality.
Compact boards made from recycled paper are often much harder and more sensitive, which frequently compromises their quality. However, this is not the case with Plastica Compact boards. Thanks to various innovative adjustments in the production process and the acquisition of a paper factory, Fundermax can ensure exceptional quality. This paper factory produces 100% recycled paper from paper and cardboard waste, contributing to a sustainable and environmentally friendly production cycle.
In addition to producing compact boards made from 100% recycled paper, Fundermax is also innovative in energy recovery. The waste heat released during the production process is now used to heat 10,000 households in the surrounding area. This is possible because no hydrochloric acid, organic chlorine compounds, or dioxins are released during the thermal disposal of residual materials. The district heating from waste heat, reduces over 42,000 tons of fossil CO2 emissions annually. It benefits not only for the climate, but also for better air quality. Fundermax won the Austrian Climate Award with this in 2008.
In line with the circular economy, secondary raw materials are processed into high-quality products. An example of this is the cellulose fibers that remain after the production process at the factory in Norway. Due to the high demand for fish packaging in Norway's fishing industry, fish packaging has been developed from the leftover cellulose fibers, which are also reusable. As a result, they ‘accidentally’ became a major supplier of fish packaging.
